![]() ![]() The area is delightfully set apart from the more crowded areas of Grand Lake, but convenient to everything. Adam and Christina were helpful and friendly, and though we never met them face to face (thus preserving our privacy), we felt well taken care of. A hummingbird feeder directly beside the living room window enticed the local hummingbirds to within a foot of us even while we were inside, and was constantly buzzing with springtime. Moose visited the yard regularly, munching on bushes while we watched and photographed from the safe but amazingly close proximity of the back deck. ![]() Internet and phone service were both excellent, and board games in the closet and a wood-burning stove made the unexpected snowy evenings cozy and fun. Towels were soft and thick, and bedding was comfortable and inviting. Kitchen supplies were all provided, including useful items often omitted from rentals, like a crock pot, mixing bowl, and baking sheets. The dining area, living room, and 3 of the 4 bedrooms offered lovely views of the lake. Those who wanted activity were able to hike right from the front door (trailhead very close by near the start of ATV trails), or paddle or peddle on the small private lake enjoying spectacular views of nearby peaks, while those who wanted to just rest could do so on the dock overlooking the water, on the large deck, on one of the 2 balconies off of the upstairs bedrooms, or on the very comfortable couch in the living room, while still feeling close to the rest of the family. Our stay in Elk House at Moose Lake Lodge was the perfect getaway for our family with 3 adult children. Overall, our stay in the Elk House was a comfortable and pleasant as we hoped it would be, and we will definitely be back the next time we come to RMNP. It may not be the cheapest lodging option, but it is worth the price and still more reasonably priced than other less-appealing locations in town. I checked out a lot of places online before I booked here, and I saw some of the other places I had considered once we were out there, and I feel like Moose Lake Lodge really was the best choice. We washed clothes there with no ill effects, but we did stick to just washing dark clothes because of the water. I grew up on well water and don't mind a little rust, but this was enough to give the water a noticeable reddish tint and make it undrinkable - so be prepared to bring some bottled water with you. As for the water, they do warn you ahead of time that it contains a high level of rust, and they are not exaggerating. So you may be better off using the data on your smartphone as we did (as long as you don't have limited data or roaming charges), instead of the Wi-Fi. The Internet is very restricted in terms of speed and download size, and the information binder in the house warns not to download videos or you may be charged because they are limited to how much they are allowed to download. A couple potential drawbacks are the Internet and the water. The deck is also a great place to hang out - we saw a moose in the lake while we were having our dinner out there the first night. We watched a bald eagle swipe a fish out of the lake while we were having lunch one day. The kitchen is well-equipped so cooking was no problem, and the dining room table is in front of a picture window overlooking the lake. There were a few minor things that could use some maintenance (some of the walls could use a new coat of paint, because they are a little scuffed, one of the racks in the dishwasher was breaking, the ice maker in the freezer wasn't working), but overall it was in really good condition and served our needs well. We stayed in the Elk House and it was spacious and comfortable. We walked there in the late afternoon and saw lots of elk and saw a moose close up (it was right next to the trail, so we had to cut off trail to give him some space). You only have to drive for a few short minutes to reach the park, the Kawuneechee Visitor Center and the town of Grand Lake. It is quiet and peaceful - but not miles away from "civilization". The other homes nearby are shielded by trees and vegetation, so you don't feel like you have neighbors right on top of you. The location is excellent on a quiet private lake with mountains in view. There are so many good things about this place. This time, we decided to start with 3 days in Grand Lake and explore more of the West side. My family has been going to Rocky Mountain National park for many years, but we have always stayed in Estes Park and visited mostly the East side of the park.
